Student Awards
The Paul Gutkin Memorial Student Design Competition
Paul Gutkin was a representative of Benjamin Moore and active in NJASID. He was an avid supporter of NJ interior design students and committed to promoting interior design education. When he passed away in 2000, the NJ Chapter of ASID established this Competition in his honor to continue his work with student education
This is a three-hour, blind competition. Students are provided with a scaled floor plan and client profile on the day of the competition. Students are asked to utilize basic hand-drafting skills and creativity to produce a furniture plan and two elevations and a brief concept statement that supports their design.
Interior design students residing in New Jersey and currently enrolled in an interior design program that requires at least 40 credit hours of design related class may participate in this competition. Students residing in other states attending a likewise qualified New Jersey interior design program are eligible to participate. Student membership in ASID is encouraged but not required.
