Designer Profile

I do not design for my vision of my clients' lives. The finished space should be their home, not my image of how they should live. I help my client's create a wish list (separate lists, if the job involves husband and wife). It helps me to understand the client's priorities-and a written list helps make the project real for the client.

"We were so happy with Storer Designs in our first home, we wouldn't think of calling anyone else when we signed the papers on our new home. Peggy walked us through every detail with the builder. We don't know what we would have done without Storer Designs. It's amazing to wake up every day and love your home."

"Peggy has helped us with our home from day one. She was fantastic during the major renovation of our home in 2008. Since then we have worked with Peg several times. Peg is kind, budget consctious and dependable. She has a vision and understanding of what you want your room and home to look like and she is able to make it happen."

Storer Designs is a twenty-three-year-old firm that was built on a steady stream of referrals from satisfied homeowners and builders. Interior designer and owner Peggy Storer, ASID takes great pride in the long-term relationships she has developed with her clients, as evidenced by the fact that her very first client is still a client.

Residential interior design, with particular emphasis on new construction and additions, is the primary focus of her business. She has designed and decorated almost every type and size of residence, from apartments to estate homes, and has overseen an impressive array of kitchen and bath renovations.

Clients are thoroughly educated about what to expect before, during and after the project. "Floor plans and swatches are important. However, using these tools alone, only about 10% of any given group of people have the visual skills to imagine the finished space," says Ms. Storer. Full-color renderings provide a sense of goal so that clients are never surprised by the final outcome. "I want my clients to be as comfortable with what I do as I am. The more I can educate them, the happier we all are," declares Ms. Storer.

Ms. Storer takes a team approach to working with builder, architect and homeowner, but acts as the advocate for the client. "Homeowners need an extra set of eyes and an opinion that is on their side. The architect creates plans to communicate with the builder; the interior designer helps make sure these plans include what's in the client's heart."

Ms. Storer is particularly sensitive to the role of artwork in interior design. Her educational background includes a BFA in design from the New York School of Interior Design and a BFA in art history from Rutgers. Clients who collect art for art's sake have a designer who shares their passion and possesses an educated eye. Those who view art as a design element have a designer who can guide them towards choices that will enhance a particular space. She has relationships with many fine artists who, in consultation with her and the client, will customize a work in progress.

Ms. Storer is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers and is National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certified.
