Designer Profile
Whether the project is an estate home, an elegant townhouse or a corporate jet, Jean Neri’s primary focus is on the people who will occupy that space. Armed with a warm and engaging personality, she is skillful at eliciting information and developing a design plan that is precisely on target for the needs, tastes and lifestyle of her clients.
From new construction to major renovations to individual room transformations, Jean focuses on giving the client exactly what they want. She is the ideal partner in the earliest planning stages of any project. She prepares a design package for the client that speaks to all their needs as they move forward in their search for an architect and/or a builder. As the project progresses, she oversees the interior design components, guaranteeing that the clients’ dreams are accurately translated into a bricks and mortar reality.
She is also a Master Gardener and serves on the board of New Jersey’s Skyland Botanical Gardens in Ringwood, New Jersey. She is sensitive to the relationship between interior design and exterior landscaping. Rooms are planned so that a beautiful view becomes an integral part of the overall design. And if the adjacent landscaping is not to the client’s liking, Jean will draw on her design and gardening background to help them bring everything from terrace plantings to walkways, from pool area to privacy plantings into harmony with their home.
Her passion for design and her ability to re-invent spaces stems from her family legacy. Her grandfather was a fine cabinet maker in the European tradition. He fostered her ability to immediately recognize quality and suitability. From her father, a builder with many high profile clients, she learned how to read building plans at an early age. So it was no surprise when Jean decided to make interior design her life’s work.
Jean studied interior design at Parson’s School of Design and the New York School of Interior Design. Publications that have featured her work include Design NJ, The Record/Homescape, Elegance by Design and Elegant LifeStyles. Although her primary focus is high-end residential design, she is open to challenges. One such challenge—the refurbishing of a Gulf Stream II jet—earned her a coveted spot as one of 50 finalists from a field of 700 entries in the Architectour Italy ’96, a prestigious international design competition.
Jean is an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers. In 2002, she was honored with the chapter’s Rene Baron Hennessy Award in honor of her distinguished service to the chapter.
