Designer Profile

Sensible and smart designs are what Gwen Nagorsky’s interiors are about. With a fine aesthetic sense born of 27 years experience, the owner of Directions in Design Inc., a full service interior design firm, let’s her client’s tastes and architectural spaces speak through her.

Each of her projects remains a creative challenge and an individual canvas. “I design for each client and do not stamp out a look”, she says. “The space should reflect my client’s personality, not mine.” And, she says, “Whether contemporary or traditional, small or large, renovation or new construction, I welcome the challenge to design a space suitable for each client’s needs in the most practical, efficient and cost – effective manner.”

After discovering a love of design while working a summer construction job as a teen, Gwen followed up by majoring in interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Several years after graduating, she began her design firm in an old Victorian home, her family residing on one side and her design studio on the other. Now a mother of two teenage daughters and a partner in a 25 year marriage, she has built a new home nestled deep in the woods-again with a studio attached.

Today, Nagorsky’s pallete includes a full spectrum of colors, materials and textures. This is evident in her extensive portfolio displaying private residences including kitchen and baths as well as medical and law offices. Many of her projects have been featured in magazines such as Design NJ. She has also published many design related articles, has been the recipient of several community service awards and has taught interior design at Centenary College as an adjunct professor.
