Designer Profile

Aesthetics, function, comfort, efficiency, productivity and safety are all fundamentals that guide Meg Jacobs, ASID, in creating award winning interiors. Her versatility and design expertise guarantee that, for every project, the final results are dictated by the individuality, tastes and lifestyle of the client as she guides and educates each one through the process from concept to completion.

Ms. Jacobs is the owner of MRJ Design Group Inc. in Cedar Knolls. Her firm concentrates on fine residential interiors, as well as corporate offices and commercial lobbies. She works to create beautiful design solutions where space coincides with its function and careful attention is given to detail. Distinctive and interesting interior architectural detail is important in her projects. Where it already exists, she takes pains to preserve it; where it is absent, she introduces it in ways that seamlessly blend with contemporary and traditional decors. To achieve her clients' goals, she frequently draws on her gift for designing custom cabinetry. As a result, she creates solutions that are unique to the demands of each project. The functional placement and aesthetic selection of lighting, furniture and accessories are also primary concerns.

Start-to-finish renovations, refurbishings and new construction projects are all evident in Ms. Jacobs' design portfolio. For clients who are moving, she is particularly skilled in assisting them by developing a plan of action that incorporates current possessions into the new space. In addition, for projects that must be completed in stages, Ms. Jacobs develops the overall plan, then helps the client prioritize so that the interiors can be implemented as time and/or budgetary constraints allow.

Her design expertise has been consistently lauded by her peers and in the press. The New Jersey Chapter of ASID has honored her with three Gold and one Bronze Award for Design Excellence in its Residential Design Awards Competitions. In 1995, she received the Gold Award in the category of Residences Under 3500 Square Feet; in 1997, the Gold Award in the Residential/Single Space category; in 1998, the Gold Award in the Kitchen category; and in 2000, the Bronze Award in the Kitchen category. Her work has been published extensively throughout the state, gracing the pages of publications such as New Jersey Monthly, Garden State Home & Garden, "Homescapes"/The Record, The Star Ledger and Elegance by Design.

An NCIDQ-certified interior designer, Ms. Jacobs is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers and has served several terms of office as a member of the New Jersey Chapter's Board of Directors. She has an M.S. degree in interior design from Pratt Institute, graduating with honors. Her educational résumé also includes a B.A. from Skidmore, a certificate in basic interior design from New York School of Interior Design, courses at Parsons School of Design and art studies at New Jersey Center for Visual Arts. Prior to establishing her own firm in 1987, she worked for Chapman & Biber in Summit, the Grad Partnership in Newark and Lila Shoshkes Design Associates in Millburn.
