Designer Profile

Kat Graytok is the founder and creative director of Kat interiors Group. Under her direction the teams in New York & Florida work in tandem to create elegant, innovative interiors and custom furnishings for the home with timeless sensibility. A designer with the soul of an artist. Kat completed her degree in textile design and painting at the prestigious Tyler School of Art and furthered he graduate studies attending NYU and Yale for Art History. Her passion for artistic exploration in numerous mediums has continued to infuse her work with originality and thoughful attention to detail.

She has nurtured this talent through extensive travel abroad, shopping international auctions, antique markets and trade shows. Her familiarity with many different cultures, both ancient and modern, is a frequent influence on her work. Clients praise her ability to combine eras and cultures with both wit and style.

Kat's work has also earned recognition from her fellow design professionals. She has been honored three times by the New Jersey Chapter of ASID with a Design Award of Excellence, most recently for the thoughtful renovation of a 5,000 square foot Frank Lloyd Wright-style home.

Visitors to show houses in the New York and New Jersey area have been delighted by her unique ability to marry color, patterns and textures, and play them against one another. Her show house résumé includes the Livingston Show House (1993), Briarcliff Manor (1993, Stone Manor Show House (1990), sponsored by ASID/NJ Chapter and Island Heights (1993) for which she received an NJ/ASID Design Award of Excellence.

Her work is frequently published in a variety of media including national and regional magazines such as Design Times, Woman's Day, Seventeen, Design New Jersey, Savvy Living, Lifestyle and Elegance by Design, New Jersey magazine Inhale/Exhale, and newspapers, including The New York Times, The Star Ledger, The Courier News and "Homescapes"/The Record. She has also appeared on NBC's “Sunday Today Show,” The Discovery Channel and has been featured on HGTV’s “Designers Challenge” as the chosen designer.

Prior to establishing her own firm in 1985, Kat worked for a major New Jersey developer, specifying interior finishes for new residential construction and model homes. In addition, she served as interior designer for American Standard Plumbing Corporation, where she had responsibility for custom bathrooms and showroom planning and design. Her Absolute Boutique for American Standard earned her an NJ/ASID Silver Design Award of Excellence in 1992.

Kat is also a professional actress. Kat’s feels that her talents as an actress have enhanced her abilties to communicate and convey her ideas to her clients in a specific and visionary way.

A modern room with a 1930s pedigree is graced with furnishings gathered from Paris and New York. Neutral colors and soft textures were selected for carpet and walls to accent the importance of the remaining elements.
