As part design psychologist , part home life coach , part space guru , and part storyteller she solves your home's design challenges from an environmental-behavioral point of view, a practical technique that makes improving the quality of living in your home no big deal.

Greta's curiosity about the world around her influences her approach. What she doesn't photograph is mentally filed away and reinterpreted in her design. The one-of-a-kind objects that she does purchase in her travels are the artistic, evocative jolts and conversation pieces that set your rooms apart. Greta, who intuits both aesthetic and organizational issues to find the synergy between you and your space. This is the key to providing humane rather than formulaic interiors in our high-speed, global world.

A specialist in how places and spaces affect behavior ; Greta lectures, interviews, and writes about the psychology of interior design. An allied member of The American Society of Interior Designers (A.S.I.D.), her career began in England at the original London offices of the eminent international design firm, Colefax & Fowler. Stateside, she joined the corporate headquarters of J.C. Penney in Manhattan as a home furnishings consultant to store buyers nationwide, also writing, producing, and presenting J.C. Penney's national retail media. A product management position at Gilford Wallcoverings followed before Greta decided her talents are best realized as an interior design and decoration consultant creating smart, timeless, and satisfying spaces .

Consultations are synergistic conversations in your home. Typically, Greta asks that you walk her through your entire space so she's able to assess & prioritize immediate needs vs. long-term objectives. She may move small pieces, creating improved traffic flow, light, & space. Greta may also identify ways in which your pieces look & function better in different locations, as well determine items worthy of repair. This eliminates premature, costly decisions. Many clients begin with a minimum two hour consult. Others opt to dive in for a full day consultation, which reverts to the reduced hourly rate after two hours. Lengthy projects require a written contract based on defined services. All consults result in a greater understanding of your space's assets & potential, plus a better grasp of how to proceed .

This Pre-War Tudor apartment was updated with abstract art (commissioned by Greta Goss) to best utilize the large walls and tall ceilings of this dining alcove; resulting in an well utilized, inviting, and dramatic spot.
The tailored lines of the tweed sofa are juxtaposed with the soft thick,stripes of the wool rug visible beneath the round, bronze based coffee table. Additional artwork completes this space savvy living room and entertainment area.

Why waste a cozy corner? This spot by the stairs became a quick favorite for curling up to read.
A screened porch designed to serve as a summer living room.
A case of oak overload is swept away with a sisal area rug and breezy linen slipcovers to keep the dining table and refinished trim the stars of the room.
This historic example of the Newport Shingle Style has an imposing reception hall paneled in oak which Greta highlighted by adding textures and shapes which offset, rather than match it: a bronze wall sculpture over the fireplace, a pair of dijon colored suede pillows on the bench, and a woven basket full of birch logs.
It's the framed tissue paper collage of a crashing sea that pulls all the other textures of this corner together.
The fireplace, piano, and palatial proportions of this living room are enjoyed daily by a family of four.
All this kitchen needed was a facelift -- paint and new appliances -- to show off the focal points: windows with waterfall views and doors with Tiffany style inserts.
When the right color is pulled from the dining room carpet and put on the walls it changes everything.
