Designer Profile

Thanks for visiting my portfolio page. I am Sandy Cabelis, founder of Cabelis Interior Design, LLC. My design philosophy is to bring a fresh look to classic design forms in a way that is personal to my clients. I believe the importance of good design can not be understated. The way an interior space is molded can impact the way we act and feel. My aim is to take all of your functional needs and personal style in mind and work with you to develop a fresh and livable design that maximizes your enjoyment in your space.

Many times, my clients know what they want and have great ideas. The challenge is bringing them to fruition. I feel my greatest asset is translating your wishes into a space that is timeless and elegant and also meets your specific needs. Other clients just don't know where to start or what they want. In this case I use cues from existing belongings to develop a style and pallet to build from. The end goal is still the same--to love your new space!

About me:
Before earning my degree in Interior Design from Berkeley College I earned an MBA and had a career in business management for large corporations. I use my business experience and education every day in my design work. It is not enough to understand the best products to specify for my clients. Planning, budgeting and negotiating are essential skills that allow me to be the best advocate I can be for my clients.

I have been very active in the New Jersey Chapter of ASID since the beginning of my career. I currently sit on the Board of Directors as the Communication Director. Prior to this service I sat as Chair of the Website Committee where I had the honor of being recognized with a Presidential Citation for leading the relaunch of this NJASID website. In addition I have also served on the Programs Committee, Trade Show Committee and also served as Co-Chair of the CEU committee for two years.

This home's family room addition provides a great looking but functional space for the family to gather. Mixing the elements of the outdoors with the comforts of natural fabrics creates a warm and comforting space.
The added bonus in this room is the comfort and luxury created with warm colors and texture.
Mouldings, grasscloth and fine furnishings transform this Mendham Living Room from bland to grand.
Soft colors and fresh, transitional furnishings complement the ocean views in this St. Maarten vacation home. Photography by Alison Dunlap.
This Essex County family wanted to break away from the expected use of the formal living room and opted for a lounge where they could entertain large groups of friends and family. By adding architectural details like applied molding on the ceiling and the use of mirrors on the walls gave this once ordinary room some drama. Custom upholstery maximized the seating areas and created multiple conversation areas. Finishing with less-traditional silk lambrequins and roman shades on the windows completed the upscale hotel lounge look of this great entertaining space.
Still a work in progress but luxury is the goal in this beautiful, custom home in Essex Fells. Fine wood finishes, rich fabrics and custom floral set the tone for this beautiful formal dining room.
This spacious living room in a St. Maarten vacation home has the cool colors of the island waters while still offering the comforts of home.
Adding color and comfortable furnishings add a casual elegance to this Kinnelon Family Room.
Who says small bathrooms can't be elegant? This 1950s home's bathroom was once donned with its original black and yellow tile and makeshift vanity. Now this Wayne family's main bathroom has all of the comforts of a modern design. Some of the key points include heated floor tiles and custom vanity to maximize the sink and counter area while keeping with the original space footprint.
